Music to work off the Holiday Pounds

We say goodbye to Lydia Mendoza

While reading my Sunday Los Angeles Times I've discovered the recent passing of Lydia Mendoza. Thoughts and prayers to her family, friends and fans.

Here is a small part of the write-up from today's Times:

Lydia Mendoza, 91; Singer was in the vanguard of Tejano music

template_bas
template_bas
By Valerie J. Nelson, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
December 30, 2007
Lydia Mendoza, an early star of Mexican American music whose passionate, despairing songs about working-class life on both sides of the border made her a trailblazer for the Tejano genre, has died. She was 91.

Mendoza, whose singing career spanned more than 60 years, died Dec. 20 of natural causes in San Antonio, Texas, according to media reports.

Texas Monthly magazine called her the "greatest Mexican American female performer ever to grace a stage" in a 1999 story that named her "the voice of the century" in Texas.

Lupe Saenz, president of the South Texas Conjunto Assn., told The Times that Mendoza was a "pioneer of our musical heritage."

"She was a rebel, in that she did what no other woman artist singer had done before her; that is, she sang about the 'machismo' culture in a way that set the course for many women today," Saenz said in an e-mail.

The words for her first, and most enduring, hit came from her girlhood collection of gum wrappers that contained song lyrics. She put the words from one wrapper to a tune she had heard in concert in Mexico and first performed "Mal Hombre" (Evil Man), a song about false-hearted lovers, when she was 10.

After Mendoza recorded the song -- a tango -- in 1934, it became a major hit throughout the Spanish-speaking community and launched her career.

Accompanied by her signature 12-string guitar, Mendoza often sang about hardship and rejection in a powerfully sincere style that reflected the music developing along the U.S.-Mexican border. Her trilling voice earned her the nickname "La Alondra de la Frontera," or Lark of the Border.

In 1935, she married shoemaker Juan Alvarado and continued to perform in an era when wives usually gave up their careers. By 1940, Mendoza had recorded more than 200 songs in a wide variety of musical styles that included boleros, rancheras and cumbias. She wrote many of them herself.

"People say I'm the mother of Tejano music," Mendoza told the Chicago Tribune in 1996, "but I don't think I even heard the word, knew what it was, until many years after I started. . . . People watched what I was doing -- singing and playing guitar -- and that inspired them."

Christmas Song of the Day: A Double Dose

One of my favorite albums to listen to is The Temptations Christmas Album? What? You don't know about the Temptations? Well, you are missing out. Luckily I am here to share a small taste, believe me you'll want a 2nd helping:

Aren't the vocals smooth?

also because it brings back great memories. This was during the time I thought Michael was amazing even though he has never been my favorite Jackson. Here's Give Love On Christmas Day with the Jackson 5

Christmas Song of the Day: All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth

Currently listening to a favorite Christmas CD of mine (Nat King Cole's Cole, Christmas & Kids) and this song is one of the tracks. Always have liked it.

Thanks to worldofchristmas.net for the lyrics and history

Don Gardner has penned the carol 'All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth' and it was first published in 1946. It has almost become a trend with every generation to introduce a new humorous Christmas song that is a parody of this song. In UK, a British comedienne named Dora Bryan recorded a parody on this song in sixties that said, "All I want for Christmas is a Beatle" and it was so funny that in became an instant hit.

Every body stops
And stares at me
These two teeth are
Gone as you can see
I don't know just who
To blame for this catastrophe!
But my one wish on Christmas Eve
Is as plain as it can be!

All I want for Christmas
Is my two front teeth,
My two front teeth,
See my two front teeth!

Gee, if I could only
Have my two front teeth,
Then I could wish you
"Merry Christmas."
It seems so long since I could say,
"Sister Susie sitting on a thistle!"
Gosh oh gee, how happy I'd be,
If I could only whistle (thhhh, thhhh)

All I want for Christmas
Is my two front teeth,
My two front teeth,
See my two front teeth.

Gee, if I could only
Have my two front teeth,
Then I could wish you
"Merry Christmas!"

Lost in Translation meets High School Musical
Canadian director Chris Grismer has teamed up with High School Musical producers to gamble that an all-teenage-girl ska band from Japan will be the next big thing
GUY DIXON

From Wednesday's Globe and Mail

December 19, 2007 at 3:20 AM EST

Most culture seekers have a recurring thing with Japan. Kitsch iconography, street fashion, even teen-tinged pop can turn fascinating, sometimes compulsory after being reimagined by the Japanese.

So leave it to Hollywood producers, with the help of a Canadian director, to tap into that perennial Japanophilia. No less than the producers of the wildly popular High School Musical are behind a plan to turn Oreskaband, an all-girl teenage ska band (of all things) from the southern industrial city of Sakai, Japan. (of all places) into the next big crossover hit on this side of the Pacific.

Already getting noticed on various Japan-culture blogs and websites, Oreskaband couldn't seem further removed from the faux Romeo and Juliet sugar high of Disney's successful High School Musical and its seemingly endless sequels and offshoots. Producers Barry Rosenbush and Bill Borden aren't entirely moving away from the winning formula. After all, there's still the upcoming High School Musical 3 and another film along similar lines, American Mall, due out next year.

But they are trying something different with the feature-film vehicle for Oreskaband titled Lock and Roll Forever, currently in production and scheduled for next summer.

The movie Lock and Roll Forever is being built around Oreskaband, a real ska band from Sakei, Japan, made up of six girls who met in junior high. (Sony Music Associated Records Inc.)

The six-piece band is a real, working group of energetic musicians still in their teens, including a guitarist, bassist and drummer, and a horn section. The girls met in junior high and already have a sizable following in Japan. They play feel-good ska and, decked out in shiny ties and touches of black and white checkerboard, they're cute (like real girls, though, rather than High School Musical Barbies).

But the band's name, literally “I am ska band,” uses the informal ore, an idiom that a schoolboy would use, not a group of girls. It hints at subtle irreverence, the antithesis of the wide-eyed, sexed-up girlishness of Japanese anime characters or the hyper-exaggerated Little Bo Peep look in Japanese street fashion. But unlike Avril Lavigne and her neckties and skater pose, there's little sexual coyness with Oreskaband.

Rosenbush calls the film A Hard Day's Night meets Lost in Translation. The screenwriter for the High School Musical films, Peter Barsocchini, is also connected with Lock and Roll. But to give it a different feel and ratchet up the hip quotient with anime-style animation scenes and long music segments, the producers have chosen Chris Grismer to direct. The Toronto-based director is known in part for his music videos for Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire and others.

“I didn't have a template,” Grismer says. “They kind of let me go nuts. I got to create all sorts of weird animated sequences and big rock 'n' roll musical numbers [with] real punk rockers. It was a lot of fun.”

As Rosenbush describes it, the story revolves around “six Japanese high-school girls with a big rock 'n' roll dream, whose paths cross with an unscrupulous promoter played by Lucas Grabeel, one of the stars of High School Musical. He says, in an offhand remark when he sees them, ‘Girls, if you ever come to California, I'll make you rock 'n' roll stars.'”

The girls take him at his word; they raise the money, fly to Los Angeles and show up on his Beverly Hills doorstep. “He had no intention of ever seeing them again. And now this rat bastard, unscrupulous rock 'n' roll promoter is stuck with six adorable, hard-playing, rock 'n' roll girls,” Rosenbush says.

“We're going to reach to the same audience that we reached out to [with] High School Musical,” he adds.

And do we already detect spinoffs and sequels? “From your lips to God's ears,” he says hopefully.

But the film also commits a number of Hollywood no-nos: The first portion will be in Japanese with subtitles. And in addition to the anime-style sections, it will include a number of musical scenes that don't propel the plot but simply feature music for its own sake.

And there is one troubling aspect, the title Lock and Roll. It seems to make fun of Japanese English pronunciation right from the start. But that's a quality of the movie Lost in Translation that Grismer says he has been very conscious of avoiding. “That was definitely a consideration. That was how a lot of people felt about Lost in Translation in Japan, that they were being made fun of,” he says. “With this movie, I didn't want to take these girls and do that with them, because you can easily slip into that Jerry Lewis, ‘Me so sah-wy' comedy.”

Not only would that not go over with audiences in Japan, where the film is planned for wide release, it wouldn't be accepted by the pop-culture Japanophiles elsewhere whom the producers seem to want to entice in order to make the film more than High School Musical Goes to Japan.

Christmas Song of the Day: White Christmas

Definitely adored Bing Crosby. Loved his look, his voice and this song

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

Mannheim Steamroller

I first heard of the group "Mannheim Steamrollers" as leaders in producing Christmas music. And who can't after their latest, fifth Christmas album,Christmas Song hit platinum in less than a week from it's release. So especially during this Christmas period I felt I had to learn more about the band.
One of my biggest questions where what does the name mean. The name "Mannheim Steamroller" actually comes from an 18th century German musical technique, from the Mannheim School. The group's albums are released by the American Gramaphone, which was founded by the group's leader Chip Davis because no major label would produce his first work. One thing I'm still not sure on is how many musicians are members or if there are any real members but it seems there will be great things to hear from the group either way.

First Song of the Day: India.Arie Wings of Forgiveness

Here are the Lyrics. Powerful song:

I just want you to know after everything that we've been through I just want you to know that I still love you
That I still love you

Had to go across the water
Just to find what was here in my heart all along
Spent so much time trying to be right
That I was dead wrong
If Nelson Mandela can forgive his oppressors surely I can forgive you for your passion

You're only human
Let's shake free this gravity of resentment and fly high (and fly high)
You're only human
Let's shake free this gravity of judgment and fly high on the wings of forgiveness

Had to run to the arms of curiosity
Just to find what was here in my life all along
I have found that the art of simplicity simply means making peace with your complexity
If Gandhi can forgive persecution surely you can forgive me for being so petty

I'm only human
Let's shake free this gravity of resentment and fly high (and fly high)
You're only human
Let's shake free this gravity of judgment and fly high on the wings of forgiveness

I searched for romance, flowers, and affection
What I found is a lesson on what love really is
And how the game of love isn't
Bout how much you can take
But that authentic love is about how much you can give

After everything that we've been through I just want you to know that I still love you
Want you to know that I forgive you
(thank you for teaching me how to give)
Want to let you know how much you changed my life
Want to let you know you taught me how to fly
And I wrote this song to tell you this
I'm better 'cause you taught me how to give

I took a swim in the sea of guilt and misery

To find myself on an island in the middle of nowhere
In my solitude I asked in all the highest truth
And what I was told was to thine own self be true
If Jesus can forgive crucifixion then surely we can survive and find a resolution

Let's keep it moving
Let's shake free this gravity of resentment and fly high (and fly high)
You're only human
Let's shake free this gravity of judgment and fly high (and fly high)
Let's keep it moving
Let's shake free this gravity of commitment and fly high on the wings of forgiveness

After everything that we've been through I just want you to know that I still love you
Want you to know that I still love you
(let's fly high)
Want to let you know how much you changed my life
Want to let you know you taught me how to fly
And I wrote this song to tell you this
I'm better 'cause you taught me how to give

I still love you
Want you to know I still love you
Want you to know I still love you
And I always will love you
And I want to let you know I forgive you
I want to let you know I still love you
Want you to know I still love you

I just want you to know I still love you
Want you to know I still love you
Want you to know I still love you
And I want to let you know I forgive you
I want to let you know I still love you
I want to let you know I still love you
Just want you to know I still love you
Just want you to know I still love you
Want you to know I still love you
And I want to let you know I forgive you

This Weekend

Try to catch some of the local bands in your area. They would appreciate the support and you never know, you may find a new band to love

Christmas Song of the Day: O Holy Night

This song is one of my mother's favorites. Seeing her face when she hears the song and hearing her sing along has made it one of mine. Often when we went to church you could see a visible change in her when this song was sung. I liked that look. It just seem to radiate PEACE.

O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining.
It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh hear the angel voices!
Oh night divine! Oh night when Christ was born!
Oh night divine! Oh night! Oh night divine!

Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother,
and in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we;
Let all within us praise his holy name.
Christ is the lord, that ever, ever praise we.
Noel! Noel! Oh night;oh night divine!
Noel! Noel! Oh night; oh night divine!
Noel! Noel! Oh night; oh night divine!

Just felt like dancing: Diddy - Tell Me Featuring Christina Aguilera

I've always been a fan of Christina Aguilera's vocals. I'm not a huge fan of Diddy, sometimes I am more than others. At times his arrogance is a turnoff but I respect his drive and ambition. I always felt he has an eye for talent but he is better at self-promotion than looking out for the other artists on his label. Too much of the talents on his label seem to just flap in the wind. That is just my opinion.

Liza Minelli - Life is A Cabaret

I heard that Liza Minelli collapsed on stage recently. My prayers go out to her and I do hope she is okay and healing.

In her honor I thought I would post this:

Monica singing A Capella

I've always thought that Monica was one of the best singers that came out. Here she is singing a capella. I'm really hoping she comes out with another album and better promotion. I've heard she is expecting her second child, I'm sure she is even a better mom than she a singer and she is a great singer

First Song of the Day: Christopher Cross' Sailing

Created a playlist for those times when I just want to mellow out and I needed to test it out to see if everything worked okay because of course I didn't do the right thing and test the songs first - that would have been too easy. Anyway on my playlist this is the first song. This song brings back great mystery. Christopher has/had a great voice and it was just a song I could always relax to.

Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love Lyrics

Heard this song recently. I'm really enjoying it. I decided to look up the lyrics. Here are some I found via sweet lyrics

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love

closed off from love i didn't need the pain
once or twice was enough
and it was all in vain
time starts to pass before you know it your frozen

ooh

but something happened for the very first time with you
my heart melted to the ground, found something true
and everyones looking round thinkin i'm going crazy

ooh

but i dont care what they say, i'm in love with you,
they tried to pull me away,
but they dont know the truth,
my hearts crippled by the vein that i keep on closing

you cut me up and i
keep bleeding, i keep keep bleeding love, i keep bleeding, i keep keep bleeding love,
keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love,
you cut me up

ooh

trying hard not to hear but they talk so loud
they pissing sounds fill my ears try to fill me with doubt
let them know that the goal is to keep me from falling
ooh

nothings greater than the rest that comes with your embrace

in this world alone the loneliness i see your face
your everywhere around me everyone thinks i'm going crazy

but i dont care what they say im in love with you
they tried to pull me away
but they dont know the truth
my hearts crippled by the vein that i keep on closing

you cut me up and i
keep bleeding, i keep keep bleeding love, i keep bleeding, i keep keep bleeding love,
keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love,
you cut me up

and its draining out of me
oh they find it hard to believe
i'll be wearing these scars for everyone to see

i dont care what they say
i'm in love with you
they try to pull me away
but they don't know the truth
my hearts crippled by the vein that i keep on closing

ooh you cut me up and i
keep bleeing and i keep keep bleeding love, keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love, keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love

oh you cut me open and i
keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love, keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love

Songs Featured in Commericals

One reason why I love the internet and the people on the internet is because if you ignore the negative people you will find that the majority of users are generous, willing to share and are helpful.

The song from this commercial has been in my head for weeks - possibly months and I kept trying to figure out what is that song.

Well thanks to the helpful Youtube uploader jackal978, I now know have the following information:

Artist - Feist
Song - 1234
Album - The Reminder

and here is the commercial:

Yesterday I mentioned Utada Hikaru's Hikari

Well here it is. I absolutely love this song.

First Song of the Day: Daniel Powter

I actually was at a friends blog this morning and she had one of those players on with her favorite songs and this is the song was playing. It's strange when this song was out I wasn't really into it. I didn't dislike it but I wasn't into. Maybe it is the fact that I've had a Yuck morning, but somehow this song just fits and I'm actually glad it was the first Song I heard today (and I'm listening to it again) and I'm determined to have a wonderful today. If you had a Yuck morning too, I wish you a great day.

Enjoy

Hikari - Se7en

I was in the mood to listen to Hikari by Utada Hikaru and thought I would do a quick online search and listen to it. This version popped up first so I thought I would give it a try and now I'm sharing it.

Tied for Last

I was introduced to this band today via a myspace friend request. Listened to a few of their songs. Have to admit they made me smile. And smiling is a good thing

Try to get out to give them a live listen

Layout Change

Since I've been surfing the web I thought I would do a bit of a change. Change is good. So what do you think? I do hope as my computer skills increase I will be able to create my own layouts. Meanwhile, I'm thankful for the many free layouts found on the internet.

Utada Hikaru - Time Will Tell

For those who would like to listen to the song

-AnOldieButAGoodie

First Song of the Day: Utada Hikaru's Time Will Tell

Since I decided to check my AOL mail I opened up their radio and Utada Hikaru's song was playing. Actually even though I have some of her albums I don't remember this one which means I need to relisten to her today. Anyway courtesy of sing365 here are the lyrics for Time Will Tell by Utada Hikaru

Naita-tte
Nani mo kawaranai-tte iwareru kedo
Dare datte
Son'na tsumori de naku n ja nai yo ne
Nayanda-tte shikatta nai yo
I just can't control the time
Kono nagai Runway kara aozora e Take off!
* Time will tell jikan ga tateba wakaru
Cry dakara son'na aseranakuta-tte ii
Time will tell jikan ga tateba wakaru
Cry ashita e no zurui chikamichi wa nai yo
Kitto kitto kitto
Ame datte
Kumo no ue e tobidaseba
Always blue sky
Taiyou datte
Te de tsukameru gurai chikaku ni kanjirareru
Hitori de ochikomanaide
We just can't control the time
Kono nagai Runway kara aozora e Take off!
Time will tell jikan ga tateba wakaru
Cry ima no iiwake ja jibun-sae gomakasenai
Time will tell jikan ga tateba wakaru
Cry dakara ima wa nakitai dake naite ii
Motto motto motto
* repeat
Time will tell
So don't you worry
(Time will tell, take your time, take it easy)
I just hope you understand
Make it nice & easy
Time will tell
(Time will tell, take your time, make it easy)
Ame ni makenai
Blue skies above us, above us
Only time will tell
Time will tell...

Christina Aguilera's Understand lyrics

I bought and still listen to Back to Basics and this song is one of the reasons why. I love the way it reminds me of an album playing. I actually love the concept of the album. It is one album that I believe you should buy in its entirety to get what she is trying to do (rather than a single here and a single there)

CHRISTINA AGUILERA LYRICS

"Understand"

I made you think, you don't understand.

I used to think that happiness could only be something
That happened to somebody else
Everybody believed, everybody but me, yeah yeah
And I've been hurt so many times before,
That my hope was dying, so sick of trying
Everybody could see, everybody but me, yeah yeah
But then you came into my life, you opened up my softer side
And now I can see into your eyes
And suddenly, I realize.

I made you think, you don't understand
All the times you didn't understand,
Why you couldn't just be my man.
I made you think, you don't understand
There were many walls you had to climb,
If you really wanted to be mine.
I made you think, you don't understand
After all the hoops I put you through,
Now I see that I'm in love with you

Now, I hope you finally understand.

So many tears I've had to cry,
But you had many more of your own you had to try
But you stuck it out and you're here with me now, yeah yeah
And rememberin' the days I pushed away your love,
You called my bluff and you still stayed around,
Yeah you figured me out
Said, you got me down
And there's no way to lie to you, you know me better than I do

Baby, ooh, you see me through,
I'd be no good without you.

I made you think, you don't understand
All the times you didn't understand,
Why you just couldn't be my man
I made you think, you don't understand
There were many walls you had to climb (yeah)
If you really wanted to be mine (ooh)
I made you think, you don't understand
After all the hoops I put you through (through)
Now I see that I'm in love with you

Now, I hope you finally understand

Oh.

Baby, won't you listen now
Can't you see just what I'm talking about?
Said baby won't you listen now
Can't you see just what I'm talking about?

Time went on, and I was wrong
To keep my distance for so long.
So afraid, you wouldn't stay
But you never turned away

Always right by my side
You're forever in my life
Don't you go
'Cause now I know
That in you I found a home.

Now I can see into your eyes
Suddenly, I realize.

I made you think, you don't understand
All the times you didn't understand
Why you just couldn't be my man
I made you think, you don't understand
There were many walls you had to climb,
If you really wanted to be mine
I made you think, you don't understand
After all the hoops I put you through
Now I see I'm in love with you.

Now, I hope you finally understand.

I made you think, you don't understand.

Madness - Our House Lyrics

Back when I first started posting on this blog I remember posting that I liked Madness. Well here are the lyrics to my favorite Madness song courtesy of elyrics:

Our House lyrics

(Smyth/Foreman)

Father wears his Sunday best

Mother's tired she needs a rest

The kids are playing up downstairs

Sister's sighing in her sleep

Brother's got a date to keep

He can't hang around

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our ...

Our house it has a crowd

There's always something happening

And it's usually quite loud

Our mum she's so house-proud

Nothing ever slows her down

And a mess is not allowed

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our ...

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our ...

Something tells you that you've got to get away from it

Father gets up late for work

Mother has to iron his shirt

Then she sends the kids to school

Sees them off with a small kiss

She's the one they're going to miss

In lots of ways

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our ...

I remember way back then when everything was true and when

We would have such a very good time such a fine time

Such a happy time

And I remember how we'd play simply waste the day away

Then we'd say nothing would come between us two dreamers

Father wears his Sunday best

Mother's tired she needs a rest

The kids are playing up downstairs

Sister's sighing in her sleep

Brother's got a date to keep

He can't hang around

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our ...

Our house, was our castle and our keep

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, that was where we used to sleep

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our street

Oreskaband

Okay I'm slipping because I can't believe I haven't shared a group that is heavy rotation in my home. I really can't get enough of them. These are some talented young lady and to see them live is an unforgettable experience

I still haven't posted my First Songs for the last two days. I won't lie. I'm on a Yoshida Brothers high. I would definitely pay to see them again. 12/3/07: First Song of the Day: A Whole New World

I'm a subscriber to FalseVoice youtube videos which led me to today's first song of the day.

It features a young lady from the Philippines that I've been following for a bit. I believe she is 14 years old now and her name is Charice Pempengco. I do hope she gets a chance to be known more worldwide without people pushing her to be too "adult". In this clip she is singing with Korean singer KyuHyun

First Song of the Day: Ayumi Hamasaki

Been in a bit of a Jpop mood for the past few days so it is no surprise that a Japanese Artist brought the first song of the day. Besides it was a good start for this morning. Keeps a body moving

Today is the JLPT Test Day

The JLPT Test is given once a year. There are 4 levels. While I'm not taking the JLPT test today (It would be a waste of money for me but I've decided I am going to try for next year) I do know a few people who are heading out to USC and other venues (I think there about 7-8 sites across the USA).

Here is a dedication for them - to encourage them and to be completely honest because I just love Utada Hikaru. Really I do but I guess if you saw our myspace page you probably figured that out

Do your best testers and Keep Tryin!

Here is a site for those who want to know more about this annual test: http://www.jflalc.org/?act=tpt&id=8

Again Good Luck today everyone! Keep Testin! Keep Trying

Special shout out to NewWave who has contributed to this blog. You inspire me with your dedication towards learning the Japanese language and other endeavors you set out to accomplish.

First Song of the Day

Wow it has been a long day, but I still remember the first song I listened to today which is a song from a previous blog - Lionel Richie's Love Will Find a Way.

I also remember the second song which is one that got me moving this morning - Koda Kumi's Shake It Up

Enjoy!

Well it will be a long day tomorrow. I'm heading off

One thing leads to another - in this case Lionel Richie

Okay still in my midst of my Amy Grant flashback but for some reason (maybe the title) that song reminded me of hanging out at CSUN listening to Lionel Richie's LOVE WILL FIND A WAY. I still think that is an amazing song. Here's a clip so you can listen to it:

-AnOldieButAGoodie

Amy Grant

Wow it is amazing to me how one thing leads to another. Watching Oprah (yep I do it from time to time) one of her guests were Amy Grant which reminded me how I use to love an Amy Grant song in my younger years. I even bought her album (yep they were making them then) just because of this song.

So I thought I would see if I could find it on Youtube and I DID! Boy this brings back memories for me

and yep, I still love it. Can't believe I still remember the lyrics

Korean Artist IVY

Hey I admit I am a sucker for people who I feel are undeservedly bashed. Lately I've noticed this artist being discussed/bashed for her private life which no one who post actually know the details of and I don't feel like posting details that are unsubstantiated

I don't know too much about this artist but I did find this video which I like. She appears to be a hard worker with talent. I commend her for that. Here is Tempation of Sonata... Let me know what you think

First Song of the Day: Christmas Song

Well just a while ago I finally got to catch a bit of GMA (Good Morning America) and Josh Groban was on singing Christmas Song. Well I don't own a Josh Groban album and haven't found his rendition online but here is one of my favorites - Nat King Cole. In fact, I think I'm going downstairs and put his Christmas CD on after I post this.

Somehow this song just feels so right on a rainy day (It is raining in Los Angeles)

Enjoy!

Lyrics - Last Christmas via lyrics007.com

Title: wham! - Last Christmas lyrics

Artist: wham!

Chorus:

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognise me?
Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me

(Happy Christmas!) I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now I know you'd fool me again

Chorus

(Oooh. Oooh Baby)

A crowded room, friends with tired eyes
I'm hiding from you and your soul of ice
My God I thought you were someone to rely on
Me? I guess I was a shoulder to cry on
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man undercover but you tore me apart
Oooh Oooh
Now I've found a real love you'll never fool me again

Chorus

A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
(Gave you my heart)
A man undercover but you tore me apart
Next year
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
special
someone
someone
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
who'll give me something in return
I'll give it to someone
hold my heart and watch it burn
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
I've got you here to stay
I can love you for a day
I thought you were someone special
gave you my heart
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone
last christmas I gave you my heart
you gave it away
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone

FirstSong of the Day: Last Christmas

Well if you surf the web I'm sure you've come across Ashley Tisdale's lipsynching rendition of Wham's Last Christmas. I am not a fan of lipsynching but it seems more and more people want/expect perfection. I'm fine with people not hitting the perfect note each time as long as they bring emotion and themselves to the performances. Too often when lipsynching people tend to be "cutesy" which I think is where Miss Tisdale went wrong. Still I'm not ready to throw stones at her or pubicly flog her. She will have good performances and bad and as long as she learns and grows from the bad then what is the harm, right?

Anyway here is a her performance

Come to think of it singing cutesy to Last Christmas isn't so bad. It's not like its a deep emotional song and the best thing is I remember really liking Wham's song so it gave me another chance to remember it. Here it is for you all too

First Song I Heard Today - Humming Urban Stereo's Stalker

Had a late start today when it came to music. Watched GMA (Good Morning America) and tried to get warm. You know when it cools down a bit in Los Angeles we act as if it is FREEZING. Anyway the first song I listened to was one by Korean artistHumming Urban Stereo, a group who is becoming one of my favorites - which means I would pay for their albums.

So I share with you my first song for today - Stalker

Monkey Majik

Now to introduce you to a band I've really been into lately,Monkey Majik. Part of the interesting thing about them is that the the singers/guitarist, the Plant brothers although in a Japanese band and living in Sendai are from Canada. Together with the drummer,"tax" and bassist,"DICK" they have even had their second single"Around the World" peaking at 4th on the Unicorn charts.

Well here is a personal favorite (other than their Picture Perfect with M-flo)

Stella's Notch

Here is a band we happened to come across while following another band. Why don't you try to guess what band, they are connected in at least 2 ways. They went to Manila fairly recently in October for 9 days. And released their 1st album, Beyond Wonderland this year. With their almost enchanting sound we haven't been able to get enough of their music lately. I hear they may have another album planned but that is not totally confirmed yet so we may all have to wait a bit more.

I believe OldiebutaGoodie already added a link but here is their myspace page just in case and hey you can't have too much of a good thing.

First Song I heard today - Kelly Rowland's Stole

Here is where we share with you the first song we hear each day.

Today is Kelly Rowland's Stole from her first album. I actually read an article about a show she recently did where the tickets were complimentary or 75cents - depending on the person telling the story. It made me think of the music business and industry. Is she not selling because of a bad album, a bad presentation or just mad management and promotion or could it be a bad economy. I do believe she has a talented voice.

Anyway here is a link to her Stole Video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yYQiivAzfrU

New Song by Jeffrey

A couple of days ago Jeffrey added another song to his SoundClick page,The Rush. Here is a link Soundclick.

Here is a quote from a bulletin Jeffrey posted on Mypace."So, I decided it was high time for me to upload a new song. I really like this song, it's totally my favorite song that I've written so far. Lyrically, it's not that deep, and vocally, there's not much too it, but I just love the beat and the way it turned out. It's all sexyyy.... haha, embarrassing. Yeah, listen to it!"

and the lyrics:
The Rush
Lyrics by Jeffrey Phung

Hush now, just another minute
I want you but I don't wanna forget it
When you come take me away

Hold on, tell me can you feel it?
How you come and push me to the limit
Feels like there's no words to say

'Cause I'll do what you want me to and
We'll sink into our own groove and
Feels like the world melts away

You strip me of my disguises
No need for the petty lies when
You come and say what you say

(Chorus)
So hush now, tell me can you feel the rush?
Slow down, feel it as you feel me up
You got me crazy, really want you, want you
So hush now, I just wanna feel the rush
Speed up, I don't ever wanna stop
You got me crazy like I want to, I want to

Don't stop, I can still feel it
I want this and I don't wanna regret it
Just come and take me away

Hold on, tell me what you're feeling
I don't want for this moment to be fleeting
I just want to stay where I lay

'Cause I'll give you a fantasy and
I'll do more than you believe 'cause
Feels like your body's a stage

You strip me of my defenses
I fall hard when I lose my senses
'Cause you come and blow me away

(Repeat Chorus)
